Religion
People who are desperately unhappy and in fear will do anything to achieve a better life. Religion tells us that we cannot do anything about the life we are existing in now, but there is a better life when we die if we follow the instructions of those who somehow have communications with the supreme being that controls us all.
If we break the rules that these chosen agents tell us. we will suffer for all eternity but if we obey them we will go to heaven that is a wonderful place where we will be happy for ever.
Most religions also say that we have to give their leaders money and absolute obedience to the point of killing or dying ourselves in their service. This is remarkably like monarchs, dictators, presidents and bankers. This is corruption
So there's this guy in the sky who made a replica of himself and put it in a garden, then ripped out one of it's ribs and made another replica but forgot to add a penis. Now there are 7 billion of us and a couple of books guided a few people to understand what it is all about and we must kill everyone who disagrees. Sounds pretty logical to me. Have faith ... halelulya ... let's worship a doll on a stick ... or better still lets kill people ... or even better let's blow ourselves up! Religion is so logical it must be true.

  • All religions are true for those that believe in them and they form a useful part in the structure of human society.
  • All religions are made up by humans who are electrochemical organisms controlled by DNA molecules.
  • Science is the belief that we can codify the laws of nature to enable us to improve our existence.
  • Religion is sets of rules about behaviour.
  • The Christian Bible and the other holy books are written in words that are a code that can be understood by anyone who has been taught to use that code for written communication. All religious books are the opinions of the authors and many have been edited by others before publication.

Religious leaders tell us that they have direct communication with a force that we do not understand but that controls everything.

When I was 17 years old and thinking about religion.

I started forming a big picture of everything around me.

This is me just before I went into the army.

  • At the age of 13 years I attended confirmation classes in St Mary's church, old town Eastbourne, Sussex

  • I studied the King James Bible that I later learned did not contain the whole bible and had been edited to suit the king.
I learned to be part of the ceremony called communium and 'served on the alter' by holding the wine and 'unleavened bread' for the pastor while he gave it to a queue of believers who knelt to receive it.

  • Religion is a form of control through fear and hope.
  • The fear is of things getting worse.
  • The hope is that there is an existence after we die that is better than the existence we are living now.
  • There have been religious wars after which the winner claims ownership of land that he cannot use unless he has slaves to work it and soldiers to defend it.
  • The Church of England was at one time the biggest owner of slum dwellings in Britain.
  • The vicar feeds his children and trains them how to use the system in such a way that they are obliged to obey the vicar until he dies.
  • It seems most people want to be told what to believe.
